Truly Finished – Compost Wall – 24th November 2017
It’s finished!
At long last we have the Compost Wall finished and complete. Just a little landscaping to do.
It’s finished!
At long last we have the Compost Wall finished and complete. Just a little landscaping to do.
We really want to get this walled finished!
Just one post hole and about 10 sleepers and we will be done.
We literally have worms everywhere!
We have four worm bins in our container shed where we turn our food scraps into worm castings and worm juice.
The first Asparagus of the season has shot up and we are hoping for a bit more success than last year.
We have one of our new adjustable Solar Racks in place now supporting some of the new panels. This will allow us to adjust our Solar Panels for maximum efficiency based on the time of year and the angle of the sun.
We also now have a set dates for adjusting the panels. These are based on the Summer/Winter Solstice times and the adjust-ability of our Solar Racks
Water has always been an issue here.
Partly due to the steepness of our property(No flat land for tanks), and partly due to the intermittent nature of rain on the western side of the coastal ranges.
By our estimations, the house here at Arborlon was built about 20 years ago.We don’t know who built it, but as we’ve lived here now for two years, we’ve noticed how well they designed the aspects of the house to achieve natural heating and cooling. We have no need for heating or air-conditioning!
We have some good friends here in our local area and just up the mountain a bit friends own a small parcel of land right on the border of the rainforest.
They have a number of large and old citrus and fruit trees, that do extremely well in the rainforest environment.
As part of our ongoing water security measures we had new water tanks installed at the shed-level last year.
5 x 2000 litre modular tanks were installed on the southern side of the shed. One of the only pieces of ‘flat land’ we own.
We built the Solar Box, for the batteries and components of our new Solar System, soon after we got here almost 2 years ago.
The initial build was always temporary as we knew we would be relocating and /or rewiring this system once we got settled.
