We returned home today from our trip to Sydney and were met with scenes of devastation.
The combination of extremely high temperatures and a severe lack of summer rain has taken a massive toll on our vege plots and gardens, and across the property.

With almost 30 mm of rain in the last 24 hours, our top tanks are overflowing.
This was the first test of the new top water tank overflow system we set up recently.

After Cyclone Debbie(March/Apr 2017) we had various areas of the road side that had been damaged. We undertook to plant many of these areas in order to strengthen them and prevent further washouts.
This was another gully needed some planting to help hold the ground in place.

Water has always been an issue here.
Partly due to the steepness of our property(No flat land for tanks), and partly due to the intermittent nature of rain on the western side of the coastal ranges.

By our estimations, the house here at Arborlon was built about 20 years ago.We don’t know who built it, but as we’ve lived here now for two years, we’ve noticed how well they designed the aspects of the house to achieve natural heating and cooling. We have no need for heating or air-conditioning!

As part of our ongoing water security measures we had new water tanks installed at the shed-level last year.
5 x 2000 litre modular tanks were installed on the southern side of the shed. One of the only pieces of ‘flat land’ we own.

Heavy rain continued to fall through Thursday morning and we could hear and see water pouring down the mountain in lots of places.
We knew there would be more ‘damage’ to the road, and possibly to areas of our property too… so ventured out again when the rain eased.
