Clearing South Park – 2nd April 2016
Today we attacked South park again. Clearing six years of unrestrained grass and weed growth is a tough job but I know how good this area of the property can look.
Today we attacked South park again. Clearing six years of unrestrained grass and weed growth is a tough job but I know how good this area of the property can look.
As we have cleared areas of the property that have been neglected over the last 5-6 years, we have seen more and more of the native plant species return.
The most remarkable has been the Maidenhair Fern(Adiantum atroviride) that appeared in massive numbers as we cleared away grass tussocks on the south and protected side of the house hill.
One of the issues we have across our property is that fun-loving ‘weed’ Lantana (Lantana camara). It is quite rampant in the gullys, and is spreading down the mountain and across all our hills.
So tackling the problem was a big and immediate issue for us once we had surveyed much off the property. Dealing with it meant a little investigation and research as to the best ways to….
Large swathes of the property have been neglected over the last 10 years, and Lantana, Kangaroo grass and a multitude of other pests have become dominant in previously manged areas of the property.
Today we moved further down the South path into the South Gully and continued clearing.
Long overgrown grass and Lantana covered just about everything at the end of the path.
