We have one of our new adjustable Solar Racks in place now supporting some of the new panels. This will allow us to adjust our Solar Panels for maximum efficiency based on the time of year and the angle of the sun.
We also now have a set dates for adjusting the panels. These are based on the Summer/Winter Solstice times and the adjust-ability of our Solar Racks
Lately the stored power in our Solar Batteries has not been performing well.
The power stored for overnight use had not been good since we got here, but lately had become an issue as we would come very close to running out of power overnight.
Today we started making the new solar racks for our existing(new) system. These racks will replace the current racking system – an off the shelf – flat racking system.
The new solar racks will be based on the racks used for our existing(old) solar system. These are hand-made, custom built, adjustable racks that fit nicely on a flat or sloping roof.
Many people who are looking to make the move off-grid often wonder about the appliances they can run with solar powered battery storage.
This is our experience…..
We picked up some new “used” Solar Panels today as part of the upgrading of our current solar system.
We knew we needed more generation power, and were planning on picking up at least another 10 250W panels(2.5kW)…..
Our “old” solar system has been in place for 15+ years, and I am still learning new things about it as time goes by. This is not helped by the lack of documentation and information on the system.
It’s seems previous owners just assumed it just worked.
In recent days with some cloudy weather, and increasing load on both the old and new solar systems, we have had only a small amount of power left in battery storage in the mornings.
Time to do something about that…
We have a second solar panel/battery system we purchased to give us additional power, and it required a new home once we arrived to protect the Switchboard, Inverter, Controller and Batteries.
So we built a box to house it all.
After clearing, rejuvenating and re-planting some of the terrace gardens in the previous weeks, we continued to work on the other(larger) terrace gardens.
This included adding a ‘pond’ as a water habitat in one of the gardens.
One of the major aims of our move to the Scenic Rim, was to be sustainable and self-sufficient. The house we now live in is 100% Solar, with battery storage….
