One plan we have had almost since we arrived two years ago, is to plant the “North Face”.
The “North Face” is the steep open slope that falls away quickly in front of the deck. It is open and very steep and really needs some trees replaced.

The “Plot Level” is just below the house to our western side. It is dominated by two large trees that are present.
A ‘Leichardt Bean’ – Cassia brewsterii, and a ‘White Cedar’ – Melia azedarach
We love the Cassia, but the White Cedar is becoming ‘weedy’ as it drops hundreds of seeds each year and these appear in our gardens and veg plots.

Despite the cold nights, the weather lately has been sunny and warm. At times even hot. This seems to have brought out a large number of birds that we see daily, passing the deck or on our way around the property. While most of the regulars are here, we also seem to...

We had been discussing what to do with ‘Gary’s pad since we completed the Acacia Garden Wall and now it was time to make a decision.

The Fire Deck has been finished for a while now, and we are working on the surrounding gardens.
As always these gardens will feature local and non-indigenous native plants and establishing plants that can survive the blistering heat that this area gets in Summer.

We have had Native Raspberries(Rubus probus) in pots at the top of the driveway now for almost a year. They have done well, but they do cop a bit of a hiding from the traffic, the sun, the birds etc. So we have decided to move and replace them.
The Raspberries will go to the ‘Raspberry Patch” and they will be replaced with Lomandras.(Lomandra longifolia, Lomandra hystrix, Lomandra confertifolia)

We built a potting bench.. and it’s bloody good.
This project was long overdue and one of the best things we have done to make our “work” here easier. If your thinking of building one… do it!

Today we found a very nice surprise pop-up(A plant that appears naturally or as an unexpected result). Two naturally growing Grevillea plants.

Native Raspberries have been a favourite of ours since we first discovered them by a creek in the Brisbane suburb of The Gap some years ago. Since then we have grown or harvested them wherever we have been, and made Raspberry Couli, and Jam, as well as eaten them...
